Like most Indians, I spend most of my life on orkut. For those of you who are not aware of what orkut is, It's the biggest thing in Brazil and India, and once was in the US. But you've probably never heard of it, no? Let's go over the facts very quickly and board you onto the hype.
Orkut is a free-access social networking service owned and operated by Google. The website is named after its creator, Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten. Although Orkut is less popular in the United States than competitors Facebook and MySpace, it is one of the most visited websites in India and Brazil.
Controversies, Fake profiles, Flooders, Spam, Hate groups, you name it, orkut has it! May be that's the reason why it's not popular outside India and Brazil. But considering the fact that you know how Google makes life easy for everyone, You'd probably be addicted to orkut, once you get used to it.
